Hi, thanks for the feedback. In the end, we want participants to feel comfortable signing up for or creating for this event. If the community is in favor of a rule change, we'll certainly see what we can do. We're open to soliciting suggestions/opinions on the generative AI rule after the current round concludes. I'll note that when we initially implemented this rule—which was prompted by specific instances of AI-generated gifts and an AI-generated fandom nomination—the feedback we received was positive overall.
Ultimately, this is a rule enforced on a case-by-case basis, and we've continued to approve canons that might heavily rely on "AI", like Murdle. We have long had other rules restricting nominations (see our rules about RPF or recursive fiction). As such, we don't regard this as a slippery slope to banning any canon that someone might find objectionable.
We can rephrase the line about what fandoms are permitted to be more specific about the current caveats.
