Few things as our writing period continues:

Previously, we stated that a drabble should be within a few words of the expected length. The length section of the Guidelines has now been amended to include the following: "Your posted drabble should be no more than 5 words away from a number ending in 100 (unless you have a reason you can point to for the discrepancy, such as punctuation adding extra words to AO3's count)." The purpose of this change is to make the expectations regarding length clear to everyone. In light of this, we're going to give it a day or two before we send out further emails about length for drabbles that are close to the expected length.

Signups are now closed, with over 100 signed up for this round! Here is the expected timeline for the next couple days:

Like last round, for the next 12 hours, we will be adding to people's signups upon request. This is intended for people who may have run into the character tagset bug when signing up close to the deadline, or whose nominations were approved late. However, anyone may ask to have characters added to their requests or offers. If you would like us to add to your signup, please post on the screened mod contact post or email us at seasonsofdrabbles AT gmail. Please make sure to include your AO3 username.

Tomorrow afternoon Eastern time, we will check the matching and send out emails to anyone who is unmatchable on offers. We'll also be checking individual signups at this time in case we find any issues there; if there are, those emails will also go out sometime tomorrow. Everyone we email will be given 24 hours to respond. Hopefully there will only be one round of emails that need to be sent out.

Barring unexpected delays, assignments will go out by Wednesday, January 19.

In the meantime, feel free to check out the app to browse requests and start writing!

Additionally, a query:

~~DCU has been nominated as a fandom, but DCU (Comics) is already in the tagset. Is there a functional difference between the two? If not, we'd like to add these characters under DCU (Comics) instead.~~ The nominator seems to have changed the fandom tag to DCU (Comics), so we've accepted the tags that way. AO3 had a hiccup when we were trying to disambiguate the character tags, however, causing issues. While we think we've managed to track down everything, some of the tags may be missing. If you are the nominator and any of these characters are missing from the tagset, please contact us to let us know!

Signups are now open for the winter 2021-22 round of Seasons of Drabbles! They will be open until January 16, 11:59pm Eastern time (Countdown).

Important Note:

In test signups, we ran into the same problem we had last round. If AO3 won't let you request a character that you know for sure is in the tagset, please comment here with the exact fandom and character(s) you were trying to request. A mod will then batch load it for you on the backend, and you will be able to request it.

Tagset:

The tagset will remain open for nominations through the end of signups.

Requests:

You must request 3-10 fandoms with 1-20 characters and 1-7 drabble types each. Fandoms in your requests must be unique, but may be related (e.g., three Star Wars requests would be fine, as long as it was three separate Star Wars fandoms).

If you wish, you may request an object/concept/etc from the canon in the character slot.

If you wish, you may request Any for drabble type. This means you are open to receiving any of the 7 drabble types in the tagset.

If you wish, you may request Any character. This means any character in the canon (NOT just the tagset). Please do not request Any unless you really are open to receiving any character from that canon.

If you have character DNWs, requesting Any might not be the best idea, as this could end up with a bad match with someone who had only offered that character. We will be checking for this before we send assignments, but it's possible we could miss something, which would lead to us having to re-assign your writer and send you to pinch hit. (Note that the character DNW would still be upheld in this situation.) If you are requesting Any and do not wish to receive fic about objects etc, you should DNW that as well.

Blank signups are allowed, but prompts, likes, and a list of DNWs are strongly encouraged.

Offers:

You must offer 3-10 fandoms with 1-20 characters and 1-7 drabble types each. Fandoms in your offers must be unique, but may be related (e.g., three Star Wars offers would be fine, as long as it was three separate Star Wars fandoms).

Do Not Wants:

Only reasonable DNWs in your AO3 signup will be enforced.

A reasonable DNW is a DNW that is clear and does not attempt to box your writer into writing just one thing.

Other:

Some tags may not appear in the drop-down menu, but can still be used by copy-pasting from the tagset itself.

If you encounter any issues while signing up, please let us know ASAP, as AO3 bugs can sometimes hit exchanges. (We are aware of the character tag issue; please see the first bullet point at the top of this post!)

Nominations are now open for the Winter 2021/2022 round of Seasons of Drabbles!

Guidelines

The tagset is here. Nominations will remain open until signups close on January 16.

You may nominate up to 10 fandoms with up to 10 characters each.

The tagset will be re-used through the end of 2022. Nominations will be wiped ahead of each new round to allow you to nominate new fandoms/characters for that round. If your fandom existed prior to September 2021, please check the tagset before nominating, as the fandoms/characters you want may already be there.

All character nominations should be disambiguated, for example: Steve Rogers (Captain America (Movies)). Characters may be nominated in any/every fandom in which they appear.

With some exceptions, both umbrella fandoms and sub-fandoms are allowed. For instance, you may nominate under Marvel Cinematic Universe or Star Wars - All Media Types. You may also nominate under sub-fandoms such as Thor (Movies) or Star Wars Original Trilogy. (Please remember that if you request Any for an umbrella fandom, you will be requesting any character who appears in any of the fandoms below the umbrella - NOT just characters in the tagset. So if you plan to request Any, you may want to request under a specific sub-fandom rather than the umbrella.) Please check the fandom notes section for exceptions prior to nominating!

RPF is allowed. Nominated RPF characters must be famous in their own right, and must be 18+ for modern RPF.

Crossovers are allowed. Crossover fandoms should be nominated as Fandom A/Fandom B. Character nominations for crossovers should be nominated as Character's Name (Fandom A/Fandom B). For example, if nominating Luke Skywalker for a Narnia/Star Wars crossover, the fandom would be nominated as Chronicles of Narnia/Star Wars, while the character would be nominated as Luke Skywalker (Narnia/Star Wars).

Recursive fandoms are allowed. The required format is Recursive: Fic/Series title - Creator. Recursive fandoms may be nominated under two circumstances: 1. the creator has posted a blanket permission statement, 2. you are the creator. In either case, please contact us when nominating so that we have the pertinent permissions. Characters nominated under recursive fandoms should be disambiguated with the title of the recursive fandom.

Since we will be re-using the tagset all year, recursive fandoms will be removed on an as-needed basis between rounds (only if a blanket permission statement comes down, or the creator asks for it to be removed).

Original Works are allowed. When nominating characters, please disambiguate with (Original Work). If an original character's gender is important to you, please specify it in your nomination.

Original characters may also be nominated in existing fandoms. When nominating an original character within an existing fandom, please disambiguate with the name of the fandom. If an original character's gender is important to you, please specify it in your nomination.

Objects/concepts/etc may be nominated in the character slot for any canon in which they appear. For Original Works, you can make some up if you would like.

Fandom notes:

Do not nominate The Avengers (Marvel Movies). Any MCU character who appears only in The Avengers movies should be nominated under Marvel Cinematic Universe.

For Disney's What If...?, characters should include the season/episode number in the disambiguation. E.g. if nominating Peggy from the first episode of s1, the character tag should be Peggy Carter (What If s1e1). Characters may be nominated for any episode in which that specific version of the character appeared.

There may be other special cases we are currently unaware of. If your fandom requires unique consideration, please reply to this post to let us know. Additionally, please keep an eye on the dreamwidth community, as we are likely to post clarification requests as nominations come in.

Seasons of Drabbles is an exchange for the creation of drabbles and drabble variants. It will run once per season*. The current round is for winter 2021-2022.

*4x per year, with each round taking place sometime sometime within a three-month period (March-May, June-August, September-November, December-February). Each round will take about a month from nominations through author reveals.

Hi again, everybody!

In our last post, we solicited feedback for the next round of the exchange. Based on that feedback, here's what we're doing for round 2/winter round 2021:

The next round will run in January and early February. Nominations to begin on January 3. Full schedule to be posted in the next few minutes. ETA: new schedule here.

We will not be adding Worldbuilding to the tagset. That said, you may nominate objects etc in the character slot if you'd like to receive fic that isn't necessarily about a person. For example, you could nominate the Tesseract for the MCU.

We will not be changing "Any" for offers for the next round.

We will be keeping the 48 hour anon period.

Thanks so much for all your feedback, and for your patience in waiting for the results! We're looking forward to the new round, and hope you guys are as well. :)
