Nominations Guidelines - Summer 2022 Round

Nominations are now open for the Summer 2022 round of Seasons of Drabbles!

Guidelines

• The tagset is here. Nominations will remain open until signups close on July 10.

• You may nominate up to 10 fandoms with up to 10 characters each.

• The tagset will be re-used through the end of 2022. Nominations will be wiped ahead of each new round to allow you to nominate new fandoms/characters for that round. If your fandom existed prior to January 2022, please check the tagset before nominating, as the fandoms/characters you want may already be there.

• All character nominations should be disambiguated, for example: Steve Rogers (Captain America (Movies)). Characters may be nominated in any/every fandom in which they appear.

• With some exceptions, both umbrella fandoms and sub-fandoms are allowed. For instance, you may nominate under Marvel Cinematic Universe or Star Wars - All Media Types. You may also nominate under sub-fandoms such as Thor (Movies) or Star Wars Original Trilogy. (Please remember that if you request Any for an umbrella fandom, you will be requesting any character who appears in any of the fandoms below the umbrella - NOT just characters in the tagset. So if you plan to request Any, you may want to request under a specific sub-fandom rather than the umbrella.) Please check the fandom notes section for exceptions prior to nominating!

• RPF is allowed. Nominated RPF characters must be famous in their own right, and must be 18+ for modern RPF.

• Crossovers are allowed. Crossover fandoms should be nominated as Fandom A/Fandom B. Character nominations for crossovers should be nominated as Character's Name (Fandom A/Fandom B). For example, if nominating Luke Skywalker for a Narnia/Star Wars crossover, the fandom would be nominated as Chronicles of Narnia/Star Wars, while the character would be nominated as Luke Skywalker (Narnia/Star Wars).

• Recursive fandoms are allowed. The required format is Recursive: Fic/Series title - Creator. Recursive fandoms may be nominated under two circumstances: 1. the creator has posted a blanket permission statement, 2. you are the creator. In either case, please contact us when nominating so that we have the pertinent permissions. Characters nominated under recursive fandoms should be disambiguated with the title of the recursive fandom.

• Since we will be re-using the tagset all year, recursive fandoms will be removed on an as-needed basis between rounds (only if a blanket permission statement comes down, or the creator asks for it to be removed).

• Original Works are allowed. When nominating characters, please disambiguate with (Original Work). If an original character's gender is important to you, please specify it in your nomination.

• Original characters may also be nominated in existing fandoms. When nominating an original character within an existing fandom, please disambiguate with the name of the fandom. If an original character's gender is important to you, please specify it in your nomination.

Objects/concepts/etc may be nominated in the character slot for any canon in which they appear. For Original Works, you can make some up if you would like.


Fandom notes:

• Do not nominate The Avengers (Marvel Movies). Any MCU character who appears only in The Avengers movies should be nominated under Marvel Cinematic Universe.

• For Disney's What If...?, characters should include the season/episode number in the disambiguation. E.g. if nominating Peggy from the first episode of s1, the character tag should be Peggy Carter (What If s1e1). Characters may be nominated for any episode in which that specific version of the character appeared.

• There may be other special cases we are currently unaware of. If your fandom requires unique consideration, please reply to this post to let us know. Additionally, please keep an eye on the Dreamwidth community, as we are likely to post clarification requests as nominations come in.

There's a fandom that's been duplicated: Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em (TV) under TV and Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em (TV) in Uncategorized Fandoms. I think the issue is that the apostrophes are different.

I'm very confused. I clicked through to the tag set, after your ETA, and there are hundreds of nominations there, including a bunch absolutely no one but me ever nominates. It does say within this same post both that the nominations have been cleared completely and that the tag set will be reused throughout the rest of 2022. So I don't know, should I be seeing these nominations? Are they supposed to be there? Is there something I should do to not see them and start over? :D

Hi there, I hope this explanation helps! It's definitely not intuitive. The way AO3 works is that participants have a finite number of nomination slots per tagset. Since we are using the same tagset for multiple rounds, we need to wipe those slots so that participants can nominate new fandoms/characters for each round. In other words, what is being cleared is the record of individual participants' nominations. Tags that have been accepted in previous rounds, which have gotten through the nominations process, will remain in the tagset.

A question, regarding the Zero Escape (Video Games) fandom, which is a series that includes three games.

If I wanted to request fic about the first game only (its story can be consumed standalone), is it better if I nominate it separately or can I request Zero Escape, the characters I want (some of whom appear in the other games) and then DNW the events of the other games?

We would accept the nomination of the first game only! That sounds like the most straightforward way for you to request what you're interested in.

Noticed a typo in the tagset! Under Final Fantasy IX: Garnet til Alexandris XVII (FFIX) should be Garnet Til Alexandros XVII (FFIX).

Thanks, it's fixed! We couldn't fix the capitalization of "Til" though, because of how AO3 works (it saves the first version of the capitalization when it's a non-canonical tag).

Under Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War (Video Games), there is a character listed as Jamie- was that meant to be Jamke? As no character named Jamie exists in the canon.

I've just added a crossover nomination for Historical RPF/Opera Singers RPF with 2 characters, and I puzzled over how to nominate Farinelli there, as he's already nominated under the Historical RPF fandom (by me in the last round, as it happens), so I'm hoping using his full name tag as it appears on AO3 by now, but still keeping him under Historical RPF, is okay? I figured it would be less confusing than having the same character tag appearing under 2 different fandoms, though he of course fits within the Opera Singers RPF fandom too. I can change this if needed, obviously.

We allow the same character to be nominated under multiple fandoms! This disambiguation just needs to be different, so that we know which is which. If it would be easier, we can accept your nominations under "Opera Singers RPF"--let us know if you would be interested in that.
